RMD - 539 Intermediate Spanish for Medical Professionals

The Intermediate Spanish for Medical Professionals course designed for first year medical students to increase their comfort level with Spanish-language interviews, examination, and patient education. The course is primarily focused on developing medical Spanish language communication skills for students with pre-existing Spanish conversational skills, but will also incorporate the socio- cultural context of Hispanic /Latino patients. Students also participate in language tasks through listening, reading, writing, and conversation. Classes will be taught in Spanish in order to immerse students in the target language. Medical Spanish requires longitudinal practice and which learners can enhance (or lose) over time. As a result, the course is also intended to help medical students understand and self-assess their proficiencies and limitations in medical Spanish and access help when needed.
